On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump entered a not guilty plea in a Miami federal courtroom. Trump is facing 37 federal accusations, including illegally keeping government secrets and attempting to obstruct justice, in an extraordinary indictment of a former president.
Trump is accused of having physically helped pack the files as he left the White House in 2021, talked about having access to top-secret records, and gave instructions to his lawyer to lie to the FBI about the kinds of records he had kept at Mar-a-Lago.
Walt Nauta, one of his assistants, has also been charged with obstructing justice and making false claims. Tuesday saw no plea from Nauta.
Trump argues he is innocent and that prosecutors are unfairly focusing on him because he is running for president once again in the days following a president’s historical charges. His Republican colleagues in Congress agreed with his allegations of bias in the Justice Department.
On Monday, special counsel Jack Smith, who was chosen by the Justice Department to lead an impartial investigation into Trump, praised the investigators and the FBI.
Tuesday, the former president made an appearance in court for processing. Trump was checked in, which involved taking his digital fingerprints. He was not restrained, his passport was not given not surrendered, and his ability to travel was not limited.
Attorneys for Trump and the government argued back and forth during the hearing regarding contact with possible witnesses.
In the end, it was decided that the government would produce a list of witnesses that Trump is not permitted to speak with regarding the issue; Nauta is probably on that list.
Law authorities had anticipated throngs of up to 50,000 people outside the courtroom, but in the end, only a few hundred of Trump’s followers showed up to show their backing for the 2024 Republican nominee. The crowds mostly behaved peacefully.
The balance of the afternoon was spent by Trump arguing with supporters.

Following that, Trump traveled to Bedminster, New Jersey, to give a speech to an assembling gathered for a fundraiser at his golf club. Over an interval of 30 minutes, Trump continually stated that the investigation was evidence of a dishonest administration using the law as a weapon.
