Israel has launched airstrikes on military targets in Iran, replying to months of continuous attacks by Iran. The strikes were as a payback for a previous missile assault on October 1, which was launched from Iranian soil.
This attack is part of an ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Considering Iran its greatest threat due to its leaders’ calls for Israel’s destruction, support for anti-Israel militant groups, and nuclear program .
However we know the long lasting conflict between Israel and Iran. Long last rivals. Countless protests. Thousands of hashtags, and millions of people getting affected. Not just physically but emotionally and mentally. We might be the generation to witness the severe rivalries between these countries for such a long period.
Israel said “almost 1,100 people were killed when Hamas attacked“. More than 200 people were held hostage or we can say prisoners for them, innocent citizens. And in Gaza they say the least number of dead people is around 42,800 or even more. And if we count the number of wounded, 100,544 were injured during the Israeli attack since 2023 October.
Background of the Conflict:- Israel
The tensions between Israel and Iran have been increasing since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The conflict has involved suspected murders of Iranian nuclear scientists, hacking and destruction of Iranian nuclear installations, and attacks on shipping in the Middle East.
Recent Events:- Israel
In recent months, Iran has launched two major missile attacks on Israel, and Israel has launched a ground invasion of Lebanon. The US has ordered Israel to respond carefully to avoid escalating the conflict. The situation remains tense , with state media in Syria reporting air defences targeting “hostile targets” and explosions heard in Tehran. On Friday more than 40 people were killed all over the country. Coming from the Lebanon health Minister who estimated the wounded people are more than 130. The situation in northern Gaza seems critical. Since the UN warning of potential “atrocity crimes” due to Israel’s ongoing military attack and constant bombing, now in its fourth week.
UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk said “it is the darkest moment of the conflict. With hundreds of thousands of Palestinians facing severe food and water shortages, and risking starvation“. The Israeli military has ordered civilians to leave, but those trying to run are being shot at, and families are being separated.
Key Concerns:
– Civilian Casualties: Over 150,000 people are reportedly dead, wounded, or missing in Gaza.
–Humanitarian Crisis: Aid is being blocked, and hospitals are running out of supplies, with one hospital, Kamal Adwan, under siege.
– International Law: The situation may amount to crimes against humanity, with potential genocide and war crimes.
The international community is being called upon to act. Türk said “states have a duty to make sure respect for international humanitarian law. The situation demands urgent attention to prevent further devastation and loss of life“.
The situation in northern Gaza is critical, with the UN warning of potential “atrocity crimes” due to Israel’s ongoing military occupation and constant bombing, now in its fourth week. The UN Human Rights Chief, Volker Türk, has expressed great concerns, stating that the Israeli military’s actions in northern Gaza may amount to crimes against humanity, including forced displacement and risk of starvation.
The numbers are increasing – over 150,000 people are reportedly dead, wounded, or missing in Gaza. With 85% of the population, approximately 1.9 million civilians, forcibly displaced. The humanitarian situation is pathetic, with shelters overflowing, food and water shortage, and the health system on the verge of collapse.
Key Concerns:
–Forced Displacement: The Israeli military has ordered hundreds of thousands to evacuate. However there’s no safe way to leave. Bombs continuing to fall, and reports of people being shot at while fleeing.
–Humanitarian Access: Aid has been largely blocked, with only a trickle reaching the affected areas, exacerbating the risk of famine and disease.
– Civilian Casualties: Hospitals, schools, and shelters have been struck, resulting in significant civilian casualties, including women, children, and medical staff.
The international community implying immediate ceasefire and respect for international humanitarian law to prevent further devastation and loss of life. The UN has emphasised that states have a duty to ensure respect for international law and protect civilians from harm.
Key Points
– Israeli Strikes: Targeted military targets in Iran in response to months of attacks
– Iranian Attacks: Launched two ballistic missile attacks on Israel in recent months
– US Involvement: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Israel to avoid escalating the conflict
– Regional Tensions: Conflict involves Israel, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon, with potential regional implications
However many media persons, journalists and reporters expressed their eye witnesses. Let’s see some of their statements. Hani Mahmoud said “Everything that happens outside Gaza serves as a distraction from the situation on the ground, particularly in the northern part of the Strip and the Jabalia refugee camp”.
Many people claimed to see footage of mass arrest. They said ” Israeli army forcefully take them and separate male from female for questioning”. Often male doctors get forced to strip naked until they are just in underwear. And God knows where they’re taken for interrogation.Everyone is trapped inside a room with no food and no water for 2 days straight.
Hani also says “Hospitals are not safe anymore. People don’t heal there. They are just another base camp for Israeli militants”.
