OpenAI is back with a new cool invention at its hands named, Sora. The Bret Taylor, Sam Altman, and Greg Brockman supervised industry OpenAI recently launched another missile which has spurred much reaction in the world of cinematography and video editing.
Peek Into the History of AI
OpenAI is a US-based research organization extensively based on researching and building a revolutionized world using Artificial Intelligence. The organization is headed by Bret Taylor in the position of chairman, Sam Altman as the CEO, and Greg Brockman as president. Their release of the most renowned AI models ChatGPT is said to be the pioneer of the AI spring. They have developed numerous language models based on the idea of outperforming humans. They have recently launched another valuable economic product, Sora, which is set to revolutionize the industry of videography.
Sora is a generative AI model that produces videos based on a single prompt thus making it the most time-efficient and economically feasible tool. It is however not yet available to the public and has been sent to “red team” researchers. They are experts who are given the responsibility to test and identify problems with such models. While at the same time, Sam Altman the CEO has been seen to be much eager to show off the capabilities of the new model. He has been actively participating in replying to the requests sent to him on ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter.
How Does Sora Functions?
Sora has been designed in a way that it would be able to create complex scenes similar to high-end cinematography with very simple prompts.
OpenAI is set to model Sora in a way that it understands and simulates the physical world.
The most important thing is, unlike thousands of websites, Sora is going to be the one AI tool that could alone create videos longer than a minute.
Another key feature of Sora is that OpenAI emphasizes its ability to understand and work on the principles of physics. This is another reason why even though the tool is still being tested, it has such a high demand on the market right away. The tool will create stunning visuals without altering the basic physics involved in the real world which would add a realistic effect to the subject.
Difference Between Sora and Other AI Models
The previous trials have caused many spurs worldwide. The videos released have been run through various public platforms and the netizens have found it rather difficult to distinguish from human-made videos.
Many videos have surfaced through the internet which showed trials of prompts used in Sora.
What astounded people the most was how a character could be designed and set into motion without necessarily giving it a significant identity. This background check would enable industries to create visually stunning advertisements and other visuals without paying more attention to the background process.
Sora can create complex scenes and precisely capture all the details of the subject and background. It is also pertinent to mention that the videos could be created at varied resolutions and aspect ratios.
Lakshmikant Gundavarapu, the Chief Innovation Officer at Trendence, in a recent interview, spoke highly of Sora’s abilities and what sets it apart from the rest. According to the Innovation Officer, Sora is a model that unlike previous AI models would not rely on static representations thus making it stand apart from the rest. The use of transformer architecture which can be seen in GPT models is another stark difference in Sora.
Is Sora Available for Public Use?
Nothing much has been spoken about since OpenAI announced Sora on 15th February.
As per reports, other than the news that Sora is still under testing with the ‘red team,’ nothing much has been shared by the team. The company has kept delaying and declined to respond to questions from interviewers.
Experts from the department like Park and Salakhutdinov have praised the capability of AI. They also pointed out the fact and highlighted the massive amounts of data and programming codes that had to be built by the engineers. They have also hinted at the factors through which Sora has been shown to take inspiration and have regarded it to be ‘far from perfect.’
Can Sora Lead to Unemployment?
Sora has created much spur and excitement worldwide but at the same time, it has threatened the life of many creative individuals. Many have taken to the internet to voice out their opinions on AI and many have been actively criticising Sora.
As more and more AI tools are being developed, each day human productivity is decreasing by a notch, and with every passing second another human being is threatened with unemployment. Many individuals have taken to the internet to share their views on Sora and how they would still prefer to use flawed human-shot videos if nothing then only for the sake of reality.
What would be interesting to see next is how the industry tackles the loops and judgments thrown at them both inside and outside. It would also be an interesting challenge for all creative individuals and give them a chance to delve into their creativity with newfound rigor.
