Namita Thapar claims she speaks openly and does not invest in the competitiveness of another shark. She was responding to the backlash that erupted when Shark Tank judges rejected a beauty brand’s presentation.
A day after the internet trolled Shark Tank India judges for rejecting a pitch as it was a competitor for Vineeta Singh, Namita Thapar has said that she calls out “toxicity” instead of celebrating people with “lack of integrity”.
The show judges were trolled for rejecting a pitch just because it would have posed competition for their ‘friend’ Vineeta Singh’s makeup brand, Sugar Cosmetics.
“Being a shark doesn’t mean we aren’t entitled to our autonomous beliefs and speaking truthfully, therefore if I don’t invest in a fellow sharks competition, that’s me, no regrets & if I call out toxicity & don’t join the ignorant who praise individuals with lack of integrity, that’s me:).”
The second season of the famous show Shark Tank India debuted on January 2 and immediately sparked new controversy. In the first episode, a cosmetics company proposal dazzled all of the sharks, but it was rejected mostly because it competed with Vineeta’s brand.
In the show, the Sugar co-founder was noticeably astonished when she was told that her business’s official Instagram account (Sugar) follows the brand being sold (Recode).
Fans were outraged, and many turned to Twitter to condemn the action. One of them mentioned that the show was becoming a TV serial drama. “Why have they transformed Shark Tank Season 2 into a full-fledged television drama?
“Mein apne doston ke competition pe invest nahi karta” bhai (bro)??? What’s the matter with you, you’re investors? I appreciate Peyush’s line, “This is ridiculous.”
