Borussia Dortmund and Ivory Coast striker was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Following an MRI scan, the doctors detected a malignant tumor and confirmed the reports.
Haller underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and two surgeries, throughout six months of treatment.
While interacting with the BBC, the player shared how he dealt with his diagnosis. He expressed that it was “something really serious.” He also revealed how his urologists helped him and encouraged him for everything involved in the process.
The cancer survivor expressed that not only did he suffer from hair loss but also bloating. In another interview with The Times, Haller disclosed that more than his physical appearance, his internal side effects affected him the most. He shared that he suffered from nausea, stomach pains, and headaches. Thereupon, after coming back to Dortmund, Sébastian worked on spreading the message for regular body checkups.
Sébastian’s Stunning Comeback
Despite dealing with “new pain” every day, the 28-year-old cancer warrior, Haller made a stunning comeback. He was featured as a second-half substitute in a friendly match against Fortuna Düsseldorf, in Spain.
As a result, the match was successful for Borussia Dortmund as they won over their opponent’s team. Since it was Haller’s first match after battling cancer, he was highly praised for his good work.
In an interview, he revealed that he has “worked a lot” to “participate in everything.” He even expressed his happiness saying that he is “naturally very happy,” as he is slowly getting better at what he does.
