Sanjay Tandon, a senior Chandigarh BJP leader and the son of former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Balram Das Tandon, took Kirron Kher’s seat in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Kher had served as the party’s MP for two terms. The party favored a new candidate above the sitting MP for the following reasons. On April 10, the Bhartiya Janata Party declared Sanjay Tandon, a resident of Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. As the party’s candidate to succeed Kirron Kher, the current member of parliament.
Currently serving as the party’s co-incharge for Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Tandon was previously the president of the BJP in Chandigarh. He is the son of the late Chhattisgarh governor Balramji Das Tandon. Along with Punjab, Chandigarh’s lone Lok Sabha seat will be up for election on June 1st.
Who is Sanjay Tandon ?
Born on September 10 1963, Sanjay Tandon is an Indian politician affiliated with the BJP. At the moment, he serves as the Bhartiya Janata Party’s State President for Chandigarh. Balramji Das Tandon, his father, was a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab. He was elected to six assembly elections and held the office of Municipal Councilor for 14 years. When Tandon was appointed the BJP’s in-charge of the Lok Sabha election in the Amritsar constituency in 1991, his political career officially began.
Finally, he was appointed the chairman of the Lok Sabha election in 2009, the year that Satya Pal Jain ran for the BJP in the Chandigarh seat. Tandon was chosen to serve as the BJP Chandigarh State President in January 2010. In January 2013, however Tandon was chosen again to serve as the BJP Chandigarh State President. In seven volumes, he and his spouse Priya S. Tandon have co-authored the text. There are fifty-two inspirational short stories in every volume in the Sunrays series.
Chandigarh Lok Sabha Seat
The party’s co-leader for Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Tandon, 60, is the son of former Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Das Tandon, who was also the president of the BJP’s Punjab unit and one of the founding members of the Jana Sangh. Thanking the party leadership for the Chandigarh ticket, which will be cast in the final round of elections on June 1, he downplayed the INDIA bloc’s electoral challenge, stating that “politics works on chemistry, not on mathematics.”
Actor Kirron Kher congratulated Mr. Tandon on his nomination. Mr. Kher was elected as an MP from Chandigarh in 2014 and again in 2019. Mr. Tandon, who formerly led the Chandigarh BJP for almost ten years, stated that he has always been dedicated to the Union Territory’s well-being. However, the candidates for nine Lok Sabha seats—seven in Uttar Pradesh and one each in Chandigarh and Bengal—were revealed by the BJP in its tenth list.
Why did the BJP remove Sanjay Tandon in Chandigarh and drop Kirron Kher?
Additionally, after serving in the Lok Sabha for ten years, Kirron Kher has been unable to shed the label of “outsider.” The politician-actor only declared, “I left my family and profession to live and work in Chandigarh for the past 10 years,” only last month. Senior BJP officials, however, argued that the favored candidate should be a local one. The Chandigarh people required “a local candidate” this time, hence Kher’s name was not on the list of four names that the local selection committee provided to the national leadership.
Finally, Sanjay Tandon, who held the position from 2010 to 2019, is the Chandigarh BJP president with the longest tenure. The party won both the Chandigarh municipal elections and the Lok Sabha elections back-to-back under Tandon’s leadership. Tandon was promoted to co-leader of the Himachal Pradesh BJP following this achievement. Balram Das Tandon, Tandon’s father, has been an RSS member for his entire life. He served as the deputy chief minister of Punjab from 1969 to 1970 and as governor of Chhattisgarh from 2014 to 2018.
