Ronaldo sent a strong message to his Al-Nassr teammates after their disappointing draw with Al-Hilal on Friday.
The Portugal legend hasn’t scored in four games after Al-Nassr drew 1-1 with Saudi champions Al-Hilal. He missed several chances as his team gave up an early lead and only earned one point in this important Saudi Pro League match. Ronaldo, who missed a penalty in the King’s Cup match against Al-Taawoun earlier this week, also received a yellow card just before half-time. It was for a reckless challenge on his fellow countryman Joao Cancelo.
The Match Flow
Anderson Talisca handed Al Nassr the lead in the first minute of the match. Thus, Al Nassr earned their lead in the first half by pressuring the league leaders effectively in their own half.
Ronaldo set up for a free kick after a solid effort to win the ball. Instead of shooting, he sent a precise cross to Mohamed Simakan, but Simakan couldn’t quite aim his header on target.
Talisca found the net twice for the home team, but both goals were ruled offside. As the match went on, Stefano Pioli’s team started to tire after the hour mark, while Al Hilal grew more powerful.
In the 77th minute, Al Hilal’s midfielder, Sergej Milinković-Savić, scored with help from Renan Lodi.
After that, neither team managed to score again. Al Hilal also missed a chance for a penalty after a VAR review in the 87th minute.
Ronaldo Reaction
Ronaldo took to instagram to send a strong message to his teammates. The message portrayed his frustration because of the match draw. He posted photos from the match and wrote in the caption, “The battle is far from over. Thank you all for the support today!”
Al Nassr’s Fate
The result after this electrifying match keeps Al Hilal one point ahead at the top of the standings. While Al Nassr is six points behind in the third place. However, the game showed that even the league’s top team can be vulnerable.
Al Nassr, now without a win in their last three matches across all competitions, will try to turn things around on Tuesday. They will face the reigning Asian champions, Al-Ain, in an AFC Champions League group stage match.
