Kantara starred Rishab Shetty, the film has been nominated for an Academy Award.
Kantara has become one of the most watched and discussed films of 2022. The film grossed over Rs 400 crore globally and established Rishab Shetty, who starred in and directed Kantara, as a household celebrity.
Apart from creating national news, the film will also compete in the world’s largest award event, the Academy Awards, generally known as the Oscars.
Following the submission of SS Rajamouli’s RRR to the Oscars 2023 in the ‘For Your Consideration’ category, it has now been reported that Kantara has also submitted their application to the Oscars 2023.
Hombale Productions founder Vijay Kirgandur confirmed the same in an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, saying that the team remains hopeful despite submitting the application at the last minute.
“We have filed our Oscar entry for Kantara and are keeping our fingers crossed since the final nominations are still to emerge,” Hombale Productions founder Vijay Kirgandur said. “Kantara as a narrative is so ingrained that we believe it may find a voice internationally as well,” he said.
Kantara was initially released in Kannada, and then dubbed versions were produced in English, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu. The action-thriller is directed by Rishab Shetty himself. Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pramod Shetty all play important parts in Kantara.
The sequel to Kantara is already in the works. Rishab Shetty previously confirmed the same. Vijay of Hombale Productions also stated that they have an idea for a sequel, but nothing has been discussed as of yet.
Kantara is set to be launched on September 30, 2022.
