The Paris Olympics has a historical background, it originated in Olympia, Greece in the year 776 BC. Both were made as ceremonies during one of the great religious events to honour Zeus-a, a supreme Greek deity. The festival held diverse sporting events, and the Games were held every four years, called the Olympiad.
The first Olympics was a simple running competition but later as time progressed, the central sports incorporated wrestling, boxing, leaping, throwing of disc and Javelin, and lastly, racing with chariots. Freeborn Greek males only were allowed to participate, and at times the competitors exercised without their clothes.
Crafted as a peaceful event for the Greek city-states, which were constant rivals and often engaged in confrontation. The Olympia and the Games themselves were accompanied by a temporary cease-fire referred to as the “Olympic Peace,” to ensure that athletes and spectators could cross from their cities to Olympia and back unhampered.
This pattern of the historical Olympics was maintained for nearly 12 centuries up to the time when the Roman Emperor Theodosius I banned the Games in 393 AD because of the pagan elements.

Tuning for the updates till now
Spain won the gold in the marathon race walk mixed relay which was for the first time featured in these Games. The competition with Ecuador ended up being close-knit but Spain was able to come out at the top. Swimmer Léon Marchand is among the biggest stars of the Games, he was involved in both the most memorable French victory on the water and a crushing defeat. His performances have attracted the interest of the audience and people, and for that he had his day celebrated in a special parade at the Champions Park in Paris.
There have been waves created by the young skateboarders and this has been in Paris. Youngsters like Trew, Hiraki, and Brown have recently dominated the event proving how popular the sport has become and how young talents are taking over the Olympic arena. The committee is also commendable for coming up with ideas derived from the landscapes of Paris; the street furniture has been designed by Stéphane Ash pool, a local designer, to double up as sports installations.
In the same development, new technologies such as OMEGA’s state-of-the-art timekeeping system are giving fans deeper looks into the events. However, there have also been some losses for example an Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, was disqualified in the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class because of a slight discrepancy in her weight again indicating the many strict measures athletes are required to obey. The Olympics featuring the men’s team of India hockey was in between good and bad at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The team made a good account
Later in the group stages where the team made a good account of itself including shocking Ireland 2-0 the Brazilian team moved to the next stage which was the semifinals. But the hope of clinching nine Olympic gold was put to an end after a very tight 2-3 defeat to Germany in the semi-finals. The match was quite intense and at one point Saina Gitan was able to level the score twice but could not go beyond.
Now, the team is expected to fight for the bronze medal in a match against Spain in the Olympics to be held on the 8th of August, in 2024.
These successes can be seen as good ground for India in the 2024 Games, which can add more medals in the further course of the Games.
Another thrilling contest to look forward to is the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event to be participated by Manu Bhaker.
Early this year, they were representing India in various shootings like the Mixed 10m Air Pistol Team comprising Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh.
The Indian name of the bronze medallist in the Men’s 50 m Rifle Three Positions event name is Swapnil Kusale. Such details depict the vibrant and complex nature of the Paris 2024 Olympics in which the aspect of sports, culture and technological innovation is embraced.
