The son of drummer Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen, Jay Weinberg, will no longer wear a Slipknot mask. With the departure of original member Joey Jordan in December 2013, the band has undergone a lineup change around ten years after Weinberg began drumming. The fans are grateful that Jay paid tribute to Joey’s contributions to the band and the previous three albums. Slipknot, though, intends to change. The group has chosen to split ways with Jay in order to pursue new artistic endeavours. No other explanation for the departure was given. Weinberg has not yet responded to inquiries about the reason behind his and Slipknot’s breakup as of this writing.
When was the announcement made?
The announcement of drummer Jay Weinberg’s departure from the secretive heavy metal group Slipknot was made on the band’s website and Instagram on November 5. Following over ten years of collaboration between Weinberg and Slipknot, the choice was made.
The announcement on Instagram appears to have been taken down, but the one on the website is still there.
Following the news, the drummer’s admirers banded together to express their shock, sparking a furor on the internet.
Jay Weinberg has been a part of Slipknot since 2014
Slipknot acquired Jay Weinberg as its lead drummer in 2014 after the previous drummer Joey Jordison left the band in late 2013. Ever since, Jay has accompanied the group on tour and contributed to all of their album & single releases, which include 5: The Gray Chapter (2014), Day of the Gusano (2017), All Out Life (2018), We Are Not Your Kind (2019), and The End, So Far (2022).
