Early in December, despite challenging macroeconomic conditions around the world, Intel apparently started laying off staff, and it was claimed that the business will eliminate numerous jobs in California. The amount of employees who will be let go and the deadline for doing so have now been verified in an official document.
By January 31, Intel will cut around 201 employees in Santa Clara, according to a formal filing made with the state Employment Development Department. Approximately 90 employees at the location will be impacted, according to an earlier estimate. This implies that “Intel now plans to eliminate 201 jobs” and that “that number has more than doubled.”
500 jobs lost in the region of California
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notification states that the deadline for Intel’s layoffs is January 31. Separately, Intel intends to cut 343 employees in Folsom, a community in Sacramento County. The semiconductor industry titan intends to axe 500 jobs in California altogether.
According to media sources, Santa Clara and Folsom employees who would be affected have been given 60 days’ notice. According to the corporation, “it is possible that some impacted employees may find comparable roles within Intel and remain employed.”
3 months of unpaid leave
The media reported in December that Intel was allegedly providing thousands of factory workers three months of unpaid leave.
According to prior reports, 201 people at Intel in California would lose their jobs as “part of a broader cost-cutting effort.” At the time, it was reported that 111 employees at Intel’s Folsom, California, location would be let go, while “90 employees will be asked to leave from the Santa Clara location.”
The chipmaker is one of many Silicon Valley behemoths, including Meta, Google, Amazon, and Twitter, that have recently made layoffs.
In October, Intel announced its plans to save close to $3 billion annually in the short term and $8 billion to $10 billion over the long run.
