So, International Men’s Day is basically a global awareness day. for many issues that men face’s including parental alienation, abuse, homelessness, suicide, and violence,etc.
IMD is celebrated annually on November 19. It is also an occasion to celebrate boy’s and men’s lives, achievements and contributions,. in particular for their contributions to nation, union,community, family, marriage, and childcare etc.
History
IMD is Inaugurated on 7 February 1992 by Thomas Oaster. On 8 February 1991, the project of International Men’s Day was conceived one year earlier.The project was re launched in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago.Hereafter, The longest running celebration of International Men’s Day is Malta. where events have occurred since 7 February 1994. Although Malta was the only country that noticed the February date of celebrating Men and their contribution to the society, the Maltese AMR Committee voted in 2009 to shift the date for IMD to 19 November.
Jerome Teelucksingh, chose 19 November to honour his father’s birthday , who brought round the event, and also to celebrate how on that date in 1989 Trinidad and Tobago’s football team had united the country with their endeavours to qualify for the World Cup. Teelucksingh has promoted International Men’s Day not just like a gendered day but a day where all issues affecting men and boys can be brought.They are trying to fight for gender equality and to remove the negative images and the stigma that are kindered with men in our society. As like International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March, International Men’s Day is not officially recognised by the United Nations.
Why We Celebrate Men’s Day On November 19?
International Men’s Day is celebrated on November 19th every year to focus on men’s health, promote gender equality, and celebrate the positive contributions of men to society. The 1st International Men’s Day was held in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh in Trinidad and Tobago.

The theme for International Men’s Day 2023 is “ZERO MALE SUICIDE.” This theme aims to raise awareness of the high rates of male suicide and to encourage men to find help if they are struggling because of any problem!
