A canary at one of England’s worst performing hospital trusts have recently stated that there’s a fear amid the hospital staff which is letting the patients healths in risk.
Birmingham hospitals:-An insider claimed that the trust operates and is a bit like the mafia. The trust claimed that the patient was taken seriously. Yet, the erstwhile and current clinicians at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Trust asserted that they were punished by the management.
The concerns include the dangerous shortage of nurses and the absence of proper communication led to the death of patients under haematology as they weren’t given treatment.
This Trust which is one of the largest trusts in the UK in the healthcare aspect which has 4 hospitals gives service to more than two million patients a year.
Even a review was conducted in 2017 which was led by a consultant Emmanouil Nikolousis which states that 20 deaths were mentioned in the same manner in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the haematology department.
Later, Mr Nikolousis abandoned the trust after a few years, that is in 2020. He was disturbed by the negligence he found and thinks that patients if given treatment would have been saved.
The report by Mr Nikolousis condemned that the clinicians had a lack of proper communication among them and no one showed ownership towards the health of patients. He states that there should have been proper actions taken. And the patients would have been saved. He even states that if there is no action taken then there is a really high possibility of no outcome. The diseases in haematology are highly complex and need immediate treatment and the accountability must be taken by the clinicians. Also there is a requirement of a good coordination of the team which wasn’t seen in the hospitals.
Mr Nikolousis has no other choice but to quit after his own findings.
