US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed his apprehensions about global challenges during his visit to India. Austin’s visit to India comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming state visit to Washington.
“We face a rapidly changing world. We see bullying and coercion from China, Russian aggression against Ukraine, and transnational challenges such as terrorism and climate change,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. It is emphasizing the pressing issues that need attention on a global scale.
Responding to Austin’s concerns, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India defended China’s stance and accused the US of engaging in coercive and hegemonic measures.

“China is a contributor to world peace and prosperity. It is the US, not China, who resorts to all types of measures for coercion and hegemony. Victims of US coercion and bullying include its allies and partners, with developing countries bearing the brunt of it,” stated the Chinese embassy official, placing the blame on the US for the current global dynamics.
During his two-day visit, Secretary Austin held meetings with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, exchanging perspectives on regional security issues. The discussions focused on strengthening the defense partnership between India and the United States.
Rajnath Singh and Lloyd Austin engaged in wide-ranging talks. They emphasizing crucial aspects of the India-US defense relationship and the regional security landscape, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. Both sides reviewed the ongoing bilateral defense cooperation activities and pledged to maintain the momentum of their engagement.
