The Income Tax Department conducted a survey at 11 am on Tuesday in the offices located in New Delhi and Mumbai. This survey has been launched in the wake of tax evasion, international taxation and irregularities in TDS. The BBC is accused of diverting their profits.
What is transfer pricing:
- Transfer pricing can be defined as the value which is attached to the goods or services transferred between related parties.
- In other words transfer pricing is the price that is paid for goods or services transferred from one unit of an organization to its other unit situated in different countries.
The survey also examines the issue of transfer pricing of BBC subsidiaries. The Income Tax Department is also probing documents related to business operations of the London-based headquarters and offices in India. The BBC is also supporting them in this investigation. So that this problem also ends. The UK government is also monitoring the proceedings.
Controversy
- BBC news was currently in controversy because the documentary “India the Modi question” related to the 2002 Gujarat riots was released on the public platform.
- On January 21, the center using emergency power under the information technology rules 2021 directed blocking multiple YouTube videos and Twitter post’s sharing links to the controversial documentary.
According to the IT department this is not a raid but this is a survey. In which he wanted to check the details, balance sheet and account of the finance department. He clarified that, “we needed some clarification and for that our team is visiting the BBC office and we are carrying out a survey”.
During the survey, phone document, journalist’s laptop were taken. The offices will be sealed for the duration of the survey and employees have been asked not to share details with anyone.
BBC
BBC (British broadcasting) is an organization working all over the world. It is headquartered in London while it was founded on 18 oct 1922. It is a statutory corporation.
This is the first time in the history of 100 years that such an action has taken place on the BBC.
According to BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, ‘BBC is a rubbish and corrupt corporation. Indira Gandhi also stopped broadcasting of BBC. The BBC has full rights of journalism in India, but has to follow the law’.
The Congress has likened the raids to an undeclared emergency. According to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, ‘instead of jpc investigation in Adani matter, the government has fallen behind BBC, counterintelligence in the doomsday’.
