Manchester City managed to book their seats in the fifth round leaving Tottenham behind, on Friday night, at the Hotspur Stadium.
Manchester City’s Victory and Tottenham’s Loss
Friday night was Man City’s night, as they entered into the fifth round of the FA Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Tottenham helped them progress from round 4 to round five.
As the match was won by Man City the opponent is quite sad for not qualifying in the eighth round after working hard for so long.
The goal scorer’s remark: The star player of the match
Nathan Aké could not hide his happiness when he gave an interview to BBC. He said that he was skeptical about scoring but the team “luckily” managed to get the points eventually. Therefore, he was joyful as he spoke about the match in his interview.
Nathan Aké: The Hero of the Match
Nathan bunched from a corner in a late winner as Man City left Tottenham behind 1-0. It was at the last 88th minute when he goaled and managed to grab the team’s position in the fifth round.
The controversy behind Nathan’s last-minute Goal Tottenham
They claimed that the last-minute goal should have been interrupted. They demanded that the goal should be disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The team surrounded the referee, Paul Tierney, and were convincing him to declare Aké’s last-minute ball a clear foul. Aké managed to score the goal in the last 88th minute bouncing it up off Micky van de Ven.
However, after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check, their call was refused. This made the Spurs disappointed because the last-minute goal led to their defeat.
Statement of Tottenham Hotspur’s coach Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou, a former soccer player and now Spurs’ coach talks about how disappointed he was when the team failed to qualify to the fifth round. He stated that it was tough to accept the fact that the “great team,” will be no more playing after succeeding in the previous games. He mentioned the team working “awfully” hard to stay in the game so far, but in the end, the decision was against the team and they had nothing to do but accept the fact they were out of the FA Cup.
Tottenham’s Not So Lucky Day
The match was the witness of Tottenham’s courageous and positive play on Friday but it seemed that the day was not called for them.
Yesterday, the grip of the game was already loose as Micky van de Ven was out of the game because of dealing with a “significant” hamstring injury. However, he and James Daniel Maddison made a comeback after their injury in the year 2023 when again the situation was not in Spurs’ control.
Throughout the match, Tottenham was under pressure to get along with Man City’s Manager, Pep Guardiola. Another reason for their defeat was the goalkeeper Vicario’s slight mistake of letting Nathan’s goal in the last 88th minute of the match.
