RRR was not included in India’s official Oscar submission, but was instead submitted individually under the ‘For your consideration’ campaign for 14 categories.
Here’s some wonderful news for RRR supporters everywhere! The film by SS Rajamouli has been included to the Oscars 2023 shortlist. The film’s song Naatu Naatu has been nominated for best song. It is currently one of the fifteen songs chosen from a total of 81.
Other songs on the list, in addition to Naatu Naatu, are ‘Nothing Is Lost‘ from Avatar: The Way Of Water, ‘Lift Me Up’ from Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever, and ‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick.
Meanwhile, it was already reported that Naatu Naatu has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Aside from that, the film has received five Critics Choice Award nominations. Prior to this, RRR’s music director, MM Keeravani, won the prize for Best Music Score at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, defeating Pawe Mykietyn for EO.
Released in March this year, RRR is a fictional tale of Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju played by Ram Charan and Komaram Bheem played by Jr NTR. The film is set in the 1920s when India was under British rule.
The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in key roles. Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that RRR 2 is also in development. SS Rajamouli confirmed the same and said, “My father is a story writer for all my films. We discussed a bit about RRR 2 and he’s working on the story.”
