She was born on June 24, 1962 to a family that valued education and social responsibility. She completed her degree in physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and later did her masters and Ph.D in energy engineering at university of California,
Berkeley. Her education helped her to prepare and build a strong foundation for her career in environmental issues and critical analytical mindset which will further help her in political agenda.
Supporter of Sustainability
Before being a part of politics, she was an established leader of sustainability. As mayor of Mexico, she gives utmost priority to sustainability. She implemented bold decisions to reduce air pollution, promote clean energy and improved public transport. Her research was focused on renewable energy, and the impact of urbanisation to the environment. She has also launched several programs to motivate recycling and reduce waste.

As the first female mayor in Mexico in the last 200 years, she sets an example for young ladies all around the world. The challenges faced by her
Just like other cities, there were crimes happening there too, she has faced criticism for her administration’s handling of crime rates and violence in some areas. It still remains a significant challenge to reduce crime. The air pollution which causes serious health hazards to the residents, she has prioritised environmental sustainability to avoid any risk factor for them. There were also opposition parties, which criticised her work. They questioned her leadership skills, policy decisions and her handling of specific fueled debates.
