On Friday morning, RCMP const. Rick O’Brien were executing a search warrant in coquitlam.The name given to the whole incident is coquitlam shooting. While executing a search warrant about 30km east of Vancouver was shot and 2 officer inujred.
INTRODUCTION: COQUITLAM SHOOTING
O Brien has celebrated 7 years of service recently. He was 51 years old. He was a constable from the Ridge Meadow detachment. He was having wife and children to whom he leaved behind.
The commanding officer of the B.C RCMP Dwayne Macdonald said that “ this is an extremely difficult and tragic day. The name given to the whole incident is coquitlam shooting.
Macdonald also said that, “ Rick O’Brien set an example for others. His community loved him so much. He had a great sense of humour. He was respected by his peers.”
Macdonald said, O’Brien succumbed to his injuries at that scene after receiving treatment from first responders.
One officer is in hospital right now, he is having some non life threatening injuries. The other officer was having minor injuries and discharged.
RCMP:
Investigation team the independent Homicide , is doing investigation about the officers death and other two officers injured. T IIO said Ridge Meadows RCMP were executing a search warrant at a home near pine tree way and Glen drive in the Vancouver suburb when incident occurred.
The discharged states that, while there, the attending officers became engaged in an altercation with a man which resulted in multiple officers being injured and the man being shot.
Eyewitness carley Hodges said, that she saw one officer who was bleeding and limping from his leg when police started arriving at the location.
Hodges said that, “He was a tourniquet on. Someone taken away ambulance and they were doing chest compression. And then cops coming with riot shields, battering rams and rifles.
RCMP also sent condolences to O’Brien family. Macdonald said. RCMP is just gutted by death of O’Brien.
O’Brien has did his service with Ridge Meadows where he also earned an award for bravery after joining. He was from oltawa and in 2016 joined RCMP.
RICK O’BRIEN:
Wendy Mehat said that O’Brien was a hard working officer. Wendy Mehat is the in charge of Ridge Meadows detachment. She also said that O’Brien loved to visiting school. He support his detachment through drives and events. She said that the loss of brien would be felt deeply by his family , colleagues and community.
He went to work today. At the time he was doing his duty and he killed and he safed his community. His death is heartbreaking and senseless.
Friday evening, a funeral procession will take placed. It was headed through Ridge and reaches in Abbotford.
Coquitlam Major Richard Stewart called it a tragic day.
“We are having a very senseless loss” Stewart, “ our hears go out to the family, friends , co worker of an officer who went to work this morning hoping to help others but no one knows there life will end here.
